Dominant groups

Analysis of the country of birth of the population in the City of Maroondah in 2016 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a smaller proportion of people born overseas, as well as a smaller proportion of people from a non-English speaking background.

Overall, 23.1% of the population was born overseas, and 15.7% were from a non-English speaking background, compared with 33.8% and 27.0% respectively for Greater Melbourne.

The largest non-English speaking country of birth in the City of Maroondah was China, where 2.7% of the population, or 2,969 people, were born.

The major differences between the countries of birth of the population in the City of Maroondah and Greater Melbourne were:
