Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with land used mainly for farming and orcharding. Population was minimal until the 1980s. Rapid growth took place during the 1990s. Growth slowed considerably between 2001 and 2011, a result of fewer new dwellings being added to the area.
Kilsyth South is a relatively recent residential area, with industrial land use in the north, and rural-residential areas in the south-east.
Major features of the area include Eastwood Golf Club, Eastwood Plaza, Bungalook Conservation Reserve and Grayswood Reserve.
