The size of the City of Maroondah's labour force in 2011 was 55,363, of which 19,051 were employed part-time and 32,935 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in the City of Maroondah in 2011 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a higher proportion in employment, and a lower proportion unemployed. Overall, 95.7% of the labour force was employed (62.8% of the population aged 15+), and 4.3% unemployed (2.8% of the population aged 15+), compared with 94.5% and 5.5% respectively for Greater Melbourne.
