Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Canterbury in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (1,324 people or 29.4%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (645 people or 14.3%)
- Managers (566 people or 12.6%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 2,535 people in total or 56.3% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, Greenacre - Mount Lewis - Chullora employed 22.8% in Professionals; 16.3% in Clerical and Administrative Workers; and 12.3% in Managers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Canterbury and Greenacre - Mount Lewis - Chullora were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Professionals (29.4% compared to 22.8%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (4.6% compared to 7.1%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (14.3% compared to 16.3%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Sales Workers (8.3% compared to 9.5%)

The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2016 and 2021 in Canterbury were for those employed as:
