Dominant groups

Analysis of the male service age groups of the Sunshine District in 2021 compared to the Keilor District shows that there was a lower proportion of males in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) as well as a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (60+ years).

Overall, 19.2% of the male population was aged between 0 and 17, and 19.5% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 22.7% and 28.7% respectively for the Keilor District.

The major differences between the male age structure of the Sunshine District and the Keilor District were:

  • A larger percentage of 'Young workforce' (19.4% compared to 10.2%)
  • A larger percentage of 'Parents and homebuilders' (21.2% compared to 18.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Seniors' (8.5% compared to 14.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Secondary schoolers' (5.7% compared to 8.2%)

From 2001 to 2021, Sunshine District's male population increased by 3,871 people (19.1%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.88% per year over the period.

The largest changes in the male age structure in this area between 2001 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • Parents and homebuilders (35 to 49) (+851 males)
