Settlement history

Development of the area dates from 2003 when subdivision commenced on the Brimbank Gardens estate. The population increased rapidly between the 2001 and 2011 Censuses as large numbers of new dwellings were added to the area.

Derrimut is a recent residential and industrial area.

Major features of the area include Derrimut Village Shopping Centre, Sunshine Golf Club, Mount Derrimut Nature Conservation Reserve (Mount Derrimut Grasslands), Gilbertsons Grassland Conservation Reserve, Balmoral Park, Gilbertson's Industrial Estate and West Park Industrial Estate.
