Forestville is bounded by Maple Street and the Keswick Military Barracks in the north, the Noarlunga/Belair railway line in the east, Victoria Street and the Glenelg tramway in the south and Third Avenue in the west.

Name origin

Forestville was named for its proximity to the suburb of Black Forest.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with land used mainly for farming, orcharding, grazing and dairying. Growth took place in the late 1800s, spurred by improved access. Significant development occurred in the early to mid 1900s. The population fluctuated slightly between 1991 and 2011, due to small changes in dwelling stock and the average number of persons living in each dwelling.
