Name origin

Parkside Ward is named for its location, adjacent to the Adelaide Park Lands.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1840s, with gradual growth in the 1870s and 1880s. Land was used mainly for farming, orcharding, grazing and dairying. Significant development occurred in the early to mid 1900s. The population increased slightly between 2001 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area, particularly medium density housing.

Parkside Ward is an established residential area, with commercial areas along Glen Osmond Road.

Major features of the area include Arkaba Shopping Centre, Hackett Reserve, Henry Codd Reserve, Howard Florey Reserve, McLeay Reserve, Windsor Street Reserve and several schools.

Parkside Ward encompasses most of the suburb of Parkside, the northern part of the suburb of Fullarton, the north-eastern part of the suburb of Malvern, and the eastern part of the suburb of Unley.
