Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Rockhampton in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Technicians and Trades Workers (4,968 males or 26.5%)
- Machinery Operators And Drivers (3,065 males or 16.4%)
- Labourers (2,815 males or 15.0%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 10,848 males in total or 58.0% of the employed male resident population.
In comparison, Regional QLD employed 25.1% in Technicians and Trades Workers; 12.7% in Machinery Operators And Drivers; and 13.7% in Labourers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Rockhampton and Regional QLD were:
- A larger percentage of males employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (16.4% compared to 12.7%)
- A larger percentage of males employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (26.5% compared to 25.1%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Managers (9.6% compared to 14.7%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Professionals (11.8% compared to 13.6%)

The number of employed males in Rockhampton increased by 983 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2016 and 2021 in Rockhampton were for those employed as:

- Machinery Operators And Drivers (+210 males)
