In some areas, public housing is an important tenure type for migrants, even long established communities.
Please note that in the 2021 Census, households occupying their dwelling rent free were moved into the "Other tenure type" category. Due to this it is likely that this category will show an increase in the 2021 year compared to earlier years. The numbers are small and expected to have minimal effect on the overall trend

Dominant groups
Analysis of the housing tenure of non-English speakers in Rockhampton Regional Council in 2021 compared to the total population in Rockhampton Regional Council shows that there was a smaller proportion of non-English speakers in households who owned their dwelling; a larger proportion purchasing their dwelling; and a larger proportion who were renters.
Overall, 13.1% of non-English speakers were in households who owned their dwelling; 41.5% were purchasing, and 42.8% were renting, compared with 23.2%, 38.8% and 30.6% respectively for the total population in Rockhampton Regional Council.
