In the City of Playford, 12% of people spoke a language other than English at home in 2016.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by the population of the City of Playford in 2016 compared to Greater Adelaide shows that there was a larger proportion of people who spoke English only, and a smaller proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 80.9% of the population spoke English only, and 12.4% spoke a non-English language, compared with 75.4% and 19.7% respectively for Greater Adelaide.

The dominant language spoken at home, other than English, in the City of Playford was Persian/Dari, with 1.2% of the population, or 1,099 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for the population of the City of Playford and Greater Adelaide in 2016 were:

  • A smaller percentage speaking Mandarin at home (0.2% compared to 2.1%)
  • A smaller percentage speaking Italian at home (0.7% compared to 2.1%)
