Dominant groups

Analysis of the family blending in the Shire of Cardinia in 2021 compared to The Hills Shire shows that there was a higher proportion of step families as well as a higher proportion of blended families. Overall, 7.2% of total couple families with children were step families, and 4.4% were blended families, compared with 5.8% and 1.8% respectively for The Hills Shire .

There were a similar proportion of other families and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of other families was 0.4% compared to 0.2% in The Hills Shire while the proportion of intact families was 88.0% compared to 92.3% in The Hills Shire .

The number of couple families with children in Shire of Cardinia increased by 3,399 between 2016 and 2021.
