The three largest ancestries in the National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) in 2011 were English, Australian and Irish.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) in 2011 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:

  • English (900,972 people or 30.5%)
  • Australian (879,044 people or 29.8%)
  • Irish (205,466 people or 7.0%)
  • Scottish (193,545 people or 6.6%)
  • Italian (148,059 people or 5.0%)

In combination these five ancestries account for 2,327,086 responses in total, or 78.82% of all responses.

The major differences between the ancestries of the population in the National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of people with English ancestry (30.5% compared to 25.8%)
  • A larger percentage of people with Australian ancestry (29.8% compared to 25.7%)
