City of Knox

Introduction

reset

In 2021, there were 45,731 non-English speakers living in the City of Knox.

The non-English speaking population includes all people who speak a language other than English at home. The term doesn’t imply that this population can't speak English, just that English is not their first or native language. Proficiency in English varies widely between different language groups.

The non-English speaking population is very important one in Australia, as immigration is integral to Australia’s history and Language diversity underlies our status as a multicultural nation. Information on non-English speakers is vital for planning local government activities such as community services, library collections, translation services, as well as planning for types of dwellings and community infrastructure.

Within the City of Knox language community of interest module, users can select from "Non-English Speakers" as a total, and a range of selected individual language groups.
