The size of the City of Knox's labour force in 2016 was 81,932, of which 28,241 were employed part-time and 47,883 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in the City of Knox in 2016 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a higher proportion in employment, and a lower proportion unemployed. Overall, 94.4% of the labour force was employed (60.9% of the population aged 15+), and 5.6% unemployed (3.6% of the population aged 15+), compared with 93.2% and 6.8% respectively for Greater Melbourne.

The labour force participation rate refers to the proportion of the population aged 15 years and over that was employed or actively looking for work.
