Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Upper North Adelaide in 2016 compared to City of Adelaide shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 7.8% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 22.8% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 5.5% and 13.0% respectively for City of Adelaide.

The major differences between the age structure of Upper North Adelaide and City of Adelaide were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 85 and over (4.9% compared to 1.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 20 to 24 (13.0% compared to 21.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (9.3% compared to 13.8%)
