Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of CAD East in 2021 compared to the City of Adelaide shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 3.7% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 11.3% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 5.8% and 15.2% respectively for the City of Adelaide.

The major differences between the age structure of CAD East and the City of Adelaide were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 20 to 24 (26.2% compared to 18.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (18.7% compared to 14.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 55 to 59 (3.0% compared to 4.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (3.0% compared to 4.4%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, CAD East's population increased by 896 people (32.4%). This represents an average annual population change of 5.77% per year over the period.

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 35 to 39 (+96 persons)
  • 30 to 34 (+87 persons)
