This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Growth LGAs in WA's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Growth LGAs in WA in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Technicians and Trades Workers (71,421 males or 28.2%)
- Machinery Operators And Drivers (39,433 males or 15.6%)
- Professionals (33,088 males or 13.1%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 143,942 males in total or 56.8% of the employed male resident population.
In comparison, National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) employed 23.7% in Technicians and Trades Workers; 15.4% in Machinery Operators And Drivers; and 14.9% in Professionals.
The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Growth LGAs in WA and National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) were:
- A larger percentage of males employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (28.2% compared to 23.7%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Professionals (13.1% compared to 14.9%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Managers (11.3% compared to 12.8%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (5.5% compared to 6.7%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed males in Growth LGAs in WA increased by 34,518 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2016 and 2021 in Growth LGAs in WA were for those employed as:
- Machinery Operators And Drivers (+6,762 males)
- Professionals (+6,719 males)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+6,449 males)
- Managers (+4,270 males)
