Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Growth LGAs in Victoria in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (123,918 people or 18.1%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (100,193 people or 14.7%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (92,394 people or 13.5%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 316,505 people in total or 46.3% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, South Australia employed 21.5% in Professionals; 13.2% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 12.5% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Growth LGAs in Victoria and South Australia were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (10.0% compared to 6.0%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (14.7% compared to 13.2%)

The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2016 and 2021 in Growth LGAs in Victoria were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+41,420 persons)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+22,383 persons)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+18,739 persons)
  • Managers (+16,840 persons)
