Growth LGAs in SA's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Growth LGAs in SA's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Growth LGAs in SA in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Technicians and Trades Workers (8,830 people or 14.8%)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (8,498 people or 14.2%)
- Professionals (8,270 people or 13.9%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 25,598 people in total or 42.9% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, New South Wales employed 11.9% in Technicians and Trades Workers; 10.6% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 25.8% in Professionals.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Growth LGAs in SA and New South Wales were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Labourers (13.5% compared to 8.2%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (14.2% compared to 10.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Professionals (13.9% compared to 25.8%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Managers (10.7% compared to 14.6%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in Growth LGAs in SA increased by 10,660 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2016 and 2021 in Growth LGAs in SA were for those employed as:
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+1,978 persons)
- Professionals (+1,841 persons)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+1,421 persons)
- Managers (+1,376 persons)
