Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Growth LGAs in Queensland in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (91,778 people or 16.6%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (83,076 people or 15.0%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (77,893 people or 14.1%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 252,747 people in total or 45.8% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Greater Sydney employed 29.3% in Professionals; 10.5% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 13.8% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Growth LGAs in Queensland and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (15.0% compared to 10.5%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Labourers (11.0% compared to 6.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Professionals (16.6% compared to 29.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Managers (10.8% compared to 15.2%)

The number of employed people in Growth LGAs in Queensland increased by 163,302 between 2006 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2006 and 2021 in Growth LGAs in Queensland were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+41,157 persons)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+35,626 persons)
  • Managers (+20,689 persons)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+16,240 persons)
