There were more technicians and trades workers in Growth LGAs in WA in 2021 than any other occupation.

When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Growth LGAs in WA's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Growth LGAs in WA in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Technicians and Trades Workers (85,201 people or 17.6%)
  • Professionals (79,986 people or 16.5%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (63,232 people or 13.1%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 228,419 people in total or 47.2% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Camden Council employed 14.2% in Technicians and Trades Workers; 20.1% in Professionals; and 10.8% in Community and Personal Service Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Growth LGAs in WA and Camden Council were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (17.6% compared to 14.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Labourers (10.5% compared to 7.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Managers (9.9% compared to 13.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Professionals (16.5% compared to 20.1%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Growth LGAs in WA increased by 75,245 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2016 and 2021 in Growth LGAs in WA were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+17,577 persons)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+15,864 persons)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+9,419 persons)
  • Managers (+8,857 persons)
