More Growth LGAs in WA female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Growth LGAs in WA's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Growth LGAs in WA in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (54,877 females or 23.8%)
  • Education and Training (29,565 females or 12.8%)
  • Retail Trade (28,697 females or 12.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 113,139 females in total or 49.1% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) employed 23.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.5% in Education and Training; and 11.8% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Growth LGAs in WA and National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in mining (2.6% compared to 0.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in financial and insurance services (2.6% compared to 4.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in manufacturing (3.5% compared to 4.6%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Growth LGAs in WA increased by 40,632 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Growth LGAs in WA were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+14,709 females)
  • Education and Training (+6,181 females)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+3,061 females)
  • Mining (+2,543 females)
