More Growth LGAs in Queensland male residents worked in construction than any other industry in 2021.

Growth LGAs in Queensland's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Growth LGAs in Queensland in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (51,242 males or 18.1%)
  • Manufacturing (30,854 males or 10.9%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (26,017 males or 9.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 108,113 males in total or 38.2% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Moreton Bay Region employed 18.2% in Construction; 9.1% in Manufacturing; and 8.6% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.

The major difference between the jobs held by the male population of Growth LGAs in Queensland and Moreton Bay Region was:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in manufacturing (10.9% compared to 9.1%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Growth LGAs in Queensland increased by 33,494 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Growth LGAs in Queensland were for those employed in:

  • Construction (+6,170 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+5,016 males)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+2,906 males)
  • Retail Trade (+2,735 males)
