Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in City of Cockburn in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (9,087 people or 14.4%)
  • Construction (5,855 people or 9.3%)
  • Education and Training (5,817 people or 9.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 20,759 people in total or 33.0% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 13.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.3% in Construction; and 8.8% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the City of Cockburn and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in mining (5.9% compared to 0.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (6.8% compared to 9.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in financial and insurance services (2.2% compared to 4.7%)
