Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Moreton Bay Region in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (35,215 people or 16.1%)
  • Construction (23,477 people or 10.7%)
  • Retail Trade (22,063 people or 10.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 80,755 people in total or 36.8% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, The Hills Shire employed 13.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.2% in Construction; and 9.1% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Moreton Bay Region and The Hills Shire were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (16.1% compared to 13.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in transport, postal and warehousing (5.8% compared to 3.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.7% compared to 11.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in financial and insurance services (2.7% compared to 8.1%)

The number of employed people in Moreton Bay Region increased by 44,837 between 2011 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2011 and 2021 in Moreton Bay Region were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+13,039 persons)
  • Construction (+5,999 persons)
  • Education and Training (+5,813 persons)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+3,754 persons)
