Growth LGAs in WA's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.
When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Growth LGAs in WA in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (66,108 people or 13.7%)
- Construction (48,142 people or 10.0%)
- Retail Trade (47,549 people or 9.8%)
In combination, these three industries employed 161,799 people in total or 33.5% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, The Hills Shire employed 13.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.2% in Construction; and 9.1% in Retail Trade.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Growth LGAs in WA and The Hills Shire were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in mining (6.8% compared to 0.2%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (6.2% compared to 4.2%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.2% compared to 11.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in financial and insurance services (1.9% compared to 8.1%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in Growth LGAs in WA increased by 133,009 between 2011 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2011 and 2021 in Growth LGAs in WA were for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+30,544 persons)
- Mining (+16,731 persons)
- Education and Training (+14,337 persons)
- Accommodation and Food Services (+10,871 persons)
