More Growth LGAs in Queensland residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Growth LGAs in Queensland's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Growth LGAs in Queensland in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (83,306 people or 15.1%)
  • Construction (59,756 people or 10.8%)
  • Retail Trade (55,100 people or 10.0%)

In combination, these three industries employed 198,162 people in total or 35.9% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Camden Council employed 12.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.8% in Construction; and 9.8% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Growth LGAs in Queensland and Camden Council were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (15.1% compared to 12.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (10.8% compared to 12.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in education and training (8.0% compared to 9.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in financial and insurance services (2.4% compared to 3.9%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Growth LGAs in Queensland increased by 76,185 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Growth LGAs in Queensland were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+22,762 persons)
  • Construction (+8,168 persons)
  • Education and Training (+6,345 persons)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+5,093 persons)
