Dominant groups

Analysis of the households without children in Growth LGAs in NSW in 2021 compared to the City of Playford shows that there was a similar proportion of young couples without children, a smaller proportion of middle-aged couples without children, and a similar proportion of older couples without children.

In addition, there were a smaller proportion of young lone person households, a smaller proportion of middle-aged lone person households, and a smaller proportion of older lone person households.

Emerging groups

Between 2001 and 2021, the number of households without children increased by 67,362.

The largest changes in households without children in Growth LGAs in NSW, between 2001 and 2021 were:

  • Older couples without children (+20,863 persons)
  • Older lone persons (+15,934 persons)
  • Middle-aged lone persons (+10,153 persons)
  • Young couples without children (+8,296 persons)
