Analysis of the families with children in Growth LGAs in SA in 2021 compared to National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) shows that there was a smaller proportion of couples with young children, as well as a smaller proportion of couples with older children.
Overall, 16.3% of total households with children were couple with young children, and 8.2% were couples with older children, compared with 21.6% and 11.1% respectively for National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA).
There were a larger proportion of single parent households with young children and a larger proportion of single parent households with older children. Overall, the proportion of single parent households with young children was 6.9% compared to 4.9% in National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) while the proportion of single parent households with older children was 6.8% compared to 6.1% in National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA).
Between 2011 and 2021, the number of households with children increased by 4,684 households or 24.9%.
