In 2021, 23,143 males (or 4.7% of the male population) in Growth LGAs in WA reported needing help in their day-to-day lives due to disability. This was a percentage increase from 2016.

Growth LGAs in WA's disability statistics relate directly to need for assistance due to a severe or profound disability. The information may be used in the planning of local facilities, services such as day-care and occasional care and in the provision of information and support to carers. Dominant groups

Analysis of the need for assistance of males in the National Growth Areas Alliance compared to the City of Wanneroo shows that there was a similar proportion of males who reported needing assistance with core activities.

Overall, 4.7% of the male population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 4.2% for the City of Wanneroo .

The major differences in the male age groups reporting a need for assistance in Growth LGAs in WA and the City of Wanneroo were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 80 to 84 (22.6% compared to 20.6%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 75 to 79 (15.1% compared to 14.1%)

Emerging groups

The major differences in the male age groups reporting a need for assistance between 2016 and 2021 in Growth LGAs in WA were in the age groups:

  • 10 to 19 (+1,275 males)
  • 20 to 59 (+1,267 males)
  • 5 to 9 (+802 males)
  • 85 and over (+621 males)
