Dominant groups
Analysis of the year of arrival for the overseas born Punjabi speaking population of the City of Knox in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a larger proportion of people who arrived before 2010, and a smaller proportion of recent overseas arrivals (those who arrived between 2016 and 2021).
Overall, 65.3% of the overseas born Punjabi speaking population arrived before 2010, and 18.0% arrived during or after 2016, compared with 42.7% and 35.7% respectively for Greater Melbourne.
The major differences between the year of arrival data of the Punjabi speaking population of the City of Knox and Greater Melbourne were:
- A larger percentage of arrivals between 1991 to 2000 (15.1% compared to 2.7%)
- A larger percentage of arrivals between 1981 to 1990 (9.9% compared to 1.2%)
