The Basin's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.
When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in The Basin in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (260 females or 22.6%)
- Education and Training (145 females or 12.6%)
- Retail Trade (126 females or 11.0%)
In combination, these three industries employed 531 females in total or 46.3% of the total employed female resident population.
In comparison, Wantirna South employed 22.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 13.3% in Education and Training; and 11.8% in Retail Trade.
The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of The Basin and Wantirna South were:
- A larger percentage of females employed in public administration and safety (5.8% compared to 4.2%)
- A larger percentage of females employed in construction (3.8% compared to 2.7%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed in financial and insurance services (3.0% compared to 5.6%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.0% compared to 7.5%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed females in The Basin increased by 71 between 2016 and 2021.
There were no major differences in The Basin between 2016 and 2021.
