City of Knox

Introduction

In 2021, there were 43,830 people aged 35 to 54 years living in the City of Knox.

Age groups are probably the most important determinants of demographic characteristics in society. People tend to go through similar life stages at similar ages in life. For instance, attending school, finding a partner, renting or purchasing a home, having children, caring for a disabled family member, retiring, downsizing and entering cared accommodation – all have a strong age-based component.

This profile looks at the characteristics of people aged 35 to 54 years in the City of Knox with options to compare over time, as well as comparison options. The options to compare are:

  • The age group compared to the total population of the City of Knox. This shows what this age group is most likely to be doing, and therefore what types of council services are likely to be demanded by this age group.
  • The age group compared to the same group in a wider geographic area. This shows whether the groups in the City of Knox are doing different things when compared to the same group elsewhere. Eg. Are children leaving home earlier or later in this area? Are empty nesters downsizing at a greater or lesser rate? Are families more or less likely to live in apartments here?

The specific age group of interest can be selected from the control panel. Topics available for each age group are shown below the table. Please note that some topics only relate to people aged 15+ and so are not available for the younger age groups.

Data notes

All topics are applicable to 35-54 year olds. However please note that in topics such as household types, there will be a mixture of arrangements for the age group. For example “Couple with children” could indicate that the 35-54 year old is a child still living at home with their parents, or that they have had children of their own and are living independently. Care should be taken in interpreting household data for 35-54 year olds, and users may need to look at a number of topics to see the role and function of the area concerned for this age group.
