Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 35 to 54 years in the City of Knox in 2021 compared to Australia shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 62.6% of people aged 35 to 54 years spoke English only, and 34.5% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 68.4% and 26.0% respectively for Australia.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 35 to 54 years in the City of Knox was Mandarin, with 8.9% of the population, or 3,923 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for people aged 35 to 54 years of the City of Knox and Australia in 2021 were:
