Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types of people aged 65 to 79 years in the City of Knox in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne, shows that there was a higher proportion of people aged 65 to 79 years in couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 17.5% of people aged 65 to 79 years were in couple families with child(ren), and 6.7% were in one-parent families, compared with 16.3% and 6.9% respectively for Greater Melbourne.
There was a lower proportion of people aged 65 to 79 years in lone person households and a higher proportion in couples without children. Overall, the proportion of people aged 65 to 79 years in lone person households was 18.6% compared to 21.1% in Greater Melbourne while the proportion of couples without children was 52.6% compared to 49.7% in Greater Melbourne.
