In CAD West, 2% of households were made up of couples with children in 2011, compared with 8% in the City of Adelaide.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in CAD West in 2011 compared to the City of Adelaide shows that there was a lower proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a lower proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 2.2% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 1.4% were one-parent families, compared with 7.6% and 3.7% respectively for the City of Adelaide.

There were a higher proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 39.4% compared to 36.5% in the City of Adelaide while the proportion of couples without children was 10.3% compared to 22.4% in the City of Adelaide.

Emerging groups

The number of households in CAD West increased by 714 between 2006 and 2011.

The largest changes in family/household types in CAD West between 2006 and 2011 were:

  • Lone person (+361 households)
  • Group household (+161 households)
  • Couples without children (+58 households)
