Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Rockhampton in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (2,416 males or 12.9%)
  • Mining (1,622 males or 8.7%)
  • Manufacturing (1,583 males or 8.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 5,621 males in total or 30.1% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Regional QLD employed 16.2% in Construction; 5.7% in Mining; and 7.8% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Rockhampton and Regional QLD were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in mining (8.7% compared to 5.7%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (8.2% compared to 6.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (2.3% compared to 5.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (12.9% compared to 16.2%)

The number of employed males in Rockhampton increased by 965 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Rockhampton were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+361 males)
  • Construction (+277 males)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (-157 males)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+143 males)
