More Rural South East residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Rural South East in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (138 people or 12.2%)
  • Construction (129 people or 11.4%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (92 people or 8.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 359 people in total or 31.7% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Rockhampton employed 18.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 7.7% in Construction; and 5.4% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Rural South East and Rockhampton were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (7.7% compared to 1.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (11.4% compared to 7.7%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in mining (8.0% compared to 5.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (12.2% compared to 18.0%)
