More Rural South East female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Rural South East in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (119 females or 21.3%)
  • Education and Training (79 females or 14.1%)
  • Retail Trade (61 females or 10.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 259 females in total or 46.3% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Rockhampton employed 28.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 15.2% in Education and Training; and 11.6% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Rural South East and Rockhampton were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (5.9% compared to 1.3%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in transport, postal and warehousing (5.2% compared to 2.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (21.3% compared to 28.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in accommodation and food services (6.6% compared to 8.1%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Rural South East increased by 53 between 2016 and 2021.
