In 2021, the largest age group in Rockhampton was 10 to 14 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2001 was 60 to 64 year olds, increasing by 1,014 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of Rockhampton in 2021 compared to Fitzroy-Wide Bay Region SA4 shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 19.7% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 17.4% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.5% and 22.5% respectively for Fitzroy-Wide Bay Region SA4.

The major differences between the female age structure of Rockhampton and Fitzroy-Wide Bay Region SA4 were:

  • A larger percentage of females aged 25 to 29 (6.9% compared to 5.4%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 20 to 24 (6.3% compared to 4.8%)
