More Liverpool female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Liverpool's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Liverpool in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,390 females or 30.2%)
  • Retail Trade (543 females or 11.8%)
  • Education and Training (377 females or 8.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 2,310 females in total or 50.2% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Western area - Greendale and Surrounds employed 12.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.9% in Retail Trade; and 14.6% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Liverpool and Western area - Greendale and Surrounds were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (30.2% compared to 12.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (0.2% compared to 7.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in education and training (8.2% compared to 14.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in construction (2.1% compared to 8.2%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Liverpool increased by 1,030 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Liverpool were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+396 females)
  • Retail Trade (+96 females)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+89 females)
  • Education and Training (+89 females)
