Location and boundaries

Bringelly is bounded by Penrith City and Elizabeth Drive in the north, the suburb of Cecil Hills, Stirling Street, Feodore Drive, Spencer Road, Cowpasture Road, Hinchinbrook Creek, Westlink (M7), the suburbs of Middleton Grange, West Hoxton and Austral and Kemps Creek in the east, Bringelly Road, Greendale Road and Bringelly Creek in the south, and the Nepean River and Wollondilly Shire in the west.

Name origin

Bringelly is named after a village in Wales.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the early 1800s when land was settled in Badgerys Creek, Greendale, Luddenham and Rossmore, and used primarily for farming and cattle grazing. The most significant development occurred during the 1970s. The population increased slightly from the early 1990s as new dwellings were added to the area.

Land use

Bringelly comprises the rural balance of Liverpool City, including some rural-residential areas. The rural areas are characterised by farms, orchards and vineyards.

Major features of the area include Sydney International Shooting Centre, RAAF Telecommunications Unit Sydney, The University of Sydney (John Bruce Pye Farm and Wolverton Farm), Western Sydney Parklands, Bents Basin State Conservation Area, Badgerys Creek Oval, Bill Anderson Park, Bringelly Park, Gulguer Nature Reserve, Kemps Creek Nature Reserve, Overett Park, Wilmington Reserve, Rossmore Grange, Rossmore Trial Track, Hoxton Park Golf Driving Range, Kemps Creek Sporting and Bowling Club and a number of schools.

Included areas

This small area encompasses the localities of Elizabeth Hills, Greendale and Len Waters Estate, the Liverpool City parts of the localities of Badgerys Creek, Bringelly, Cecil Park, Kemps Creek, Luddenham, Rossmore, Silverdale and Wallacia, and part of the locality of Austral. Most of the locality of Silverdale is located in Wollondilly Shire. Parts of the locality of Wallacia are located in Wollondilly Shire and Penrith City. Parts of the localities of Badgerys Creek, Kemps Creek and Luddenham are located in Penrith City. Part of the locality of Cecil Park is located in Fairfield City. Parts of the localities of Bringelly and Rossmore are located in the Camden Council area. Most of the locality of Austral is located in the Austral small area.
