Dominant groups

Analysis of the country of birth of the population in Liverpool City in 2011 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a larger proportion of people born overseas, as well as a larger proportion of people from a non-English speaking background.

Overall, 39.8% of the population was born overseas, and 35.9% were from a non-English speaking background, compared with 34.2% and 26.3% respectively for Greater Sydney.

The largest non-English speaking country of birth in Liverpool City was Fiji, where 3.6% of the population, or 6,418 people, were born.

The major differences between the countries of birth of the population in Liverpool City and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of people born in Fiji (3.6% compared to 0.7%)
  • A larger percentage of people born in Iraq (3.4% compared to 0.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of people born in United Kingdom (1.6% compared to 4.1%)
