Analysis of the unpaid child care provided by the population in St George Region in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a lower proportion of people who provided unpaid child care either to their own or to other children. Overall, 22.3% of the population provided unpaid child care, compared with 25.2% for Greater Sydney.
The major differences between the share of the population providing unpaid child care in St George Region and Greater Sydney were:
- A larger percentage who did not provide care for children (71.7% compared to 68.9%)
- A smaller percentage who provided unpaid childcare for own child/ren (18.9% compared to 21.3%)

The number of people who provided unpaid child care for their own and/or other people's children in St George Region increased by 996 between 2011 and 2021.
The largest changes in the number of people performing unpaid child care in St George Region, between 2011 and 2021 were those who:
