Dominant groups

Analysis of the country of birth of the population in the Georges River Council area in 2016 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a larger proportion of people born overseas, as well as a larger proportion of people from a non-English speaking background.

Overall, 45.5% of the population was born overseas, and 41.6% were from a non-English speaking background, compared with 36.7% and 29.3% respectively for Greater Sydney.

The largest non-English speaking country of birth in the Georges River Council area was China, where 16.1% of the population, or 23,654 people, were born.
