Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Georges River Council area in 2016 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (8,432 people or 12.1%)
  • Retail Trade (7,040 people or 10.1%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (6,433 people or 9.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 21,905 people in total or 31.5% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Greater Sydney employed 11.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.3% in Retail Trade; and 9.8% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the Georges River Council area and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (8.5% compared to 6.7%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in transport, postal and warehousing (6.3% compared to 5.0%)
