Dominant groups
Analysis of the unpaid child care provided by the female population in St George Region in 2021 compared to Hurstville (Remainder) shows that there was a higher proportion of females who provided unpaid child care either to their own or to other children. Overall, 24.6% of the female population provided unpaid child care, compared with 22.7% for Hurstville (Remainder).
The major differences between the share of the female population providing unpaid child care in St George Region and Hurstville (Remainder) were:
- A larger percentage who provided unpaid childcare for own child/ren (20.3% compared to 18.3%)
- A smaller percentage who did not provide care for children (69.5% compared to 71.4%)

The number of females who provided unpaid child care for their own and/or other people's children in St George Region decreased by 3,087 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the number of females performing unpaid child care in St George Region, between 2016 and 2021 were those who:
