More St George Region female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in St George Region in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (13,177 females or 21.8%)
  • Education and Training (6,760 females or 11.2%)
  • Retail Trade (6,251 females or 10.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 26,188 females in total or 43.3% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Georges River Council area employed 23.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 11.6% in Education and Training; and 10.4% in Retail Trade.

The major difference between the jobs held by the female population of St George Region and Georges River Council area was:

  • A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (21.8% compared to 23.1%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in St George Region increased by 3,252 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in St George Region were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+2,442 females)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (-1,037 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+868 females)
  • Education and Training (+843 females)
