In 2021, 6,274 males (or 4.7% of the male population) in St George Region reported needing help in their day-to-day lives due to disability. This was a percentage increase from 2006.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the need for assistance of males in Georges River Council compared to Riverwood shows that there was a lower proportion of males who reported needing assistance with core activities.

Overall, 4.7% of the male population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 5.2% for Riverwood.

The major differences in the male age groups reporting a need for assistance in St George Region and Riverwood were:

  • A smaller percentage of males aged 85 and over (46.0% compared to 58.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 75 to 79 (17.7% compared to 25.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (10.8% compared to 14.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 80 to 84 (28.2% compared to 30.4%)

Emerging groups

The major differences in the male age groups reporting a need for assistance between 2006 and 2021 in St George Region were in the age groups:

  • 85 and over (+642 males)
